A U.S. nuclear-powered attack submarine struck a mystery object while submerged in international waters in the Indo-Pacific region. The incident occurred last week, the U.S. NAVY press office said, adding that there were no reported injuries aboard or life-threatening military personnel.

“The submarine remains in safe and stable condition. The USS Connecticut’s nuclear propulsion plant and spaces were not affected and remain fully operational,” the U.S. Pacific Fleet public affairs officer said Thursday in a statement. No further details are available on the circumstances of the collision or the extent of damage to the USS Connecticut, but the Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed “serious concern” about what happened. It was not reported where the collision occurred, but other officials said it was in the South China Sea.

USOs are unidentified underwater objects, they are often spotted in the oceans by fishing boats, divers and submarines. It is not yet known what kind of objects they are, perhaps alien probes or aircraft belonging to Extraterrestrial civilizations. “The U.S. Navy has not requested assistance. The incident will be investigated,” the U.S. Pacific Fleet public affairs office said in a note.
