Alacahöyük is a municipality in Turkey located in the district of Alaca, in the province of Corum. Alacahöyük is a Neolithic and Hittite archaeological site of great importance. Its name in the Hittite language is unknown even if it is assumed that it may be Arinna, an important religious center of the Hittite empire. The Höyük hill in Turkish at Alacahöyük has been the site of a continuous sequence of settlements since the Chalcolithic period when the first ancient copper instruments appeared alongside stone tools. The site has been inhabited continuously since then until the current settlement in the form of a modern small village. During the Early Bronze Age, the hill was the center of a thriving Hattian culture, but the most obvious and most characteristic architectural remains of the Alacahöyük site, such as the “Sphinx Gate”, date back to the Hittite period that followed Hatti’s. from the XIV century B.C. The ancient Hattic settlement dates back to important findings representing the Anatolian art of the time found in thirteen wells dug into the rock: the “Royal Tombs” of Alacahöyük that contained the dead in a fetal position and facing south. These were richly adorned with golden brooches, tiaras, and belt buckles with gold leaf embossed figures.
