Temehea Tohua is the ancestral home of Vaekehu, the last queen of Taiohae. The site is located in Nuku Hiva, the largest island of the Marquesas Islands. This island is unique for its strange statues which some depict Extraterrestrials creatures. There are many who want to unravel the riddle of Temehea Tohua sculptures: they are the fruit of the imagination of Polynesian settlers, or the testimony of an ancient close encounter? No doubt, the original meaning and purpose of a large amount of prehistoric art is beyond our comprehension. Often, what had been considered as the figment of an ancient artist turned out to be an accurate testimony of historical facts. It could also be the case of the enigmatic statues of Temehea Tohua? The amazing statues are located on the island of Nuku Hiva, the largest of the Marquesas in French Polynesia. Europeans have reached the Marquesas only in the last decade of the 16th century, but according to some recent studies, the first settlers arrived from Samoa around 2000 years ago. 

Interestingly, the original name of the Marquesas Islands was “Te Fenua` Enata “, which in the southern dialect means” Land of Men “, a name which, according to some scholars wanted to mark a difference with the land inhabited by” foreigners “.And, in fact, some statues on the island of Nuku Hiva seem to represent beings from another world! Certainly, they do not present the appearance of the first human inhabitants of the island. Some sculptures show beings with disproportionately large heads, open mouths and huge eyes; in some cases, there is a weird Disney mix of human traits and Aliens. 

Groups of beings seem to wear what to modern eyes seems to have a helmet. Interestingly, in all the representations these beings show a fierce look.

The dating of the statues is uncertain. Some scholars think they can trace the beginning of the 2nd millennium A.D., but it could be much older. Certainly, their origin and their meanings remain an unsolved mystery. Because our ancestors have felt the need to sculpt statues of monstrous beings with large eyes, elongated heads and other terrifying characteristics? Whoever they represent, beings seem to be wearing some kind of dress, like the space suits of modern times.

Are ancient representations strangely dressed priests, the evil spirits to be resisted, or, as claimed by the theorists of the Ancient Astronauts, the testimony of an alien contact occurred thousands of years ago?
